Foraging is a system for community
10+ years ago when Elihu first started foraging he knew deep down it was for a connected sustainable community. But as many foragers are explorers, they first voyage out on their own with the knowledge they’ve acquired and test out their knowledge and systems until they’re successful multiple times. Once he was ready to share his knowledge and experiences… here we are! Learning and sharing with each other in this foraging community.
Can you think of a human-built system (social or digital) that works similarly to the mycelial?
Growing up in an immigrant household we shared resources constantly. Neighbor to neighbor, community member to community member, we were always sharing resources. When you went fishing with your family you always came back with extra fish to give to your neighbors, family, or community. How can you improve your network in terms of decentralized support and sharing?
Chanterelles, Zeller’s bolete and lobster mushrooms ready to be cooked
When was the last time you went foraging and dropped off a basket of your haul to a neighbor?
I received a nice bag of chantrelles the other day from my mom’s friend. Off chance she thought of me while she was foraging. I’m grateful to her and this network we’re building.
Anyways, thanks for reading. If you liked this, you might like to join the wild foraging community to:

To forage mushrooms! Let’s not forget about what’s really important… the mushroom. The network? The mushroom. Let’s eat!
